Slee Blackwell are pursuing claims in the French courts for women who have suffered injury as a result of receiving defective PIP breast implants. Interim payments totalling €495,000 have already been recovered on behalf of our clients in the French litigation by Oliver Thorne and his team.
The PIP scandal hit the headlines when it was discovered that Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), a French company manufacturing breast implants, had been using substandard, industrial-grade silicone. The defective implants were more likely to rupture and the silicone gel inside was presented a health risk.
In January 2017 a court in Toulon, France, ordered TUV Rheinland, to pay compensation to women affected by PIP breast implants.
The French litigation had been closed to new claims, but it has recently been announced that a new group of claimants will be entitled to seek compensation.
Oliver Thorne, the Slee Blackwell PIP lawyer who is currently representing 165 women in the French litigation and who has already recovered compensation for PIP victims approaching £1m, is delighted with the decision:
“So many PIP victims have missed out on compensation and thought they would never get a chance to achieve justice. This decision offers them a lifeline. I’m expecting a large number of women to come forward to register for inclusion in the new group.”
