Our free legal helpline is here to help those who want to know where they stand on claiming cryptosporidium compensation following the outbreak of the parasitic illness in Devon.
Public health experts predict that the number of people infected by cryptosporidium is likely to increase for up to two weeks following the initial outbreak in south Devon.
The disease, which causes diarrhoea, nausea, fever, and vomiting, has been responsible for several people needing to seek hospital treatment.
While most victims are Devon residents, our cryptosporidium compensation helpline is receiving calls from individuals elsewhere in the UK who have spent time in the affected areas of Devon.
Lawyer Jasmine Moxey-Butler, who is coordinating Slee Blackwell’s team dealing with the cryptosporidium outbreak, is particularly concerned about vulnerable individuals falling ill with the disease.
“While most people who are affected by cryptosporidium are likely to make a swift and full recovery,” said Jasmine, “there are certain individuals who are particularly vulnerable. They are susceptible to suffering longer periods of illness after contracting cryptosporidium, or even developing secondary conditions that can present a serious risk to their long term health.”
Jasmine has a track record of successfully claiming compensation for victims of contaminated water, previously recovering over £33,000 for one of her clients.
South West Water, who performed a U-turn after initially saying said tap water in the area was safe to drink, has apologised for the outbreak. However, there is a great deal of anger, with the Devon MP Anthony Mangnall saying that “heads are going to roll”.
“I fully support the comments made by Mr Mangnall, that those who are responsible must held to account,” Jasmine said.
