Breast enlargement is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures carried out in the UK. Most breast enlargement procedures (also known at breast augmentation or a ‘boob job’) are carried out privately because this type of surgery is not usually available under the National Health Service.
While most women are satisfied with the outcome of their breast surgery, a significant minority encounter problems that require them to seek legal advice from solicitors like ourselves who specialise in negligent breast surgery claims.
The legal issues that our specialist solicitors are most commonly asked to advise on include:
- breast surgery that has not been performed incorrectly;
- surgery that fails to comply with the patient’s instructions;
- unsatisfactory aesthetic outcomes;
- excessive scarring; and
- post operative infections.
A frequent cause for complaint about breast enhancement is that women feel they have not received sufficient information to enable them to make an informed decision regarding their breast surgery, including the known risks associated with their procedure.
Another issue is that of fat transfer being used in breast enlargements. Although it is used to create more natural looking breasts, fat resorption can result in asymmetrical breasts, often necessitating revision surgery to be carried out to obtain the desired symmetrical appearance.
