Slee Blackwell Solicitors won 2 award categories and were runners up in 3 more at the inaugural Devon and Somerset Law Society Legal Awards on Thursday 3 March.
The prestigious event was hosted by BBC legal expert Joshua Rozenberg at Sandy Park, Exeter.
The black tie gala was commenced in rousing style by the Royal Marines military band. The Law Society president was guest of honour. He used the occasion to voice his worries about access to law and justice in the UK, which he described as being “under siege”.
Representatives from law firms all over Devon and Somerset were in attendance at the ceremony so competition for the coveted awards was fierce.
Rachel Thain, an Abuse Lawyer at Slee Blackwell’s Taunton office was named ‘Legal Hero’. She was given the award for displaying “exceptional dedication and commitment”, and going the ‘extra mile’ for her clients.
Jasmine Butler, a member of the firm’s personal injury department, won Support Team Member of the Year. Her award, sponsored by Paignton Zoo, was for “demonstrating dedication and motivation beyond the call of duty.”
Slee Blackwell were runners up in 3 other categories: Team of the Year, Solicitor of the Year and Leader of the Year.
Commenting on the success, partner James McNally said:
“To be nominated in five categories, winning two of them, is a brilliant achievement for Slee Blackwell and our dedicated staff. Rachel and Jasmine richly deserve the accolades they have received.”
