The aim of the event was to raise funds for the many projects that the Red Cross run both in the UK and abroad. The teams comprised four members, each running 10k which made up the full marathon distance.
Each team member had to run three laps of an undulating, mainly off road course around the historic Powderham Castle and its grounds. The team had put in many hours of training in the run up to the race.
“Despite all the training that we put in, it was still tough going on the day but we enjoyed it immensely.”
In total twenty teams took part in the event from a wide range of organisations. A number of the top teams posted very fast times.
“Sadly we did not win, but at least we did not come last. As it says on many school reports “There is room for improvement”. Maybe next year!
The event raised almost £10,000 in sponsorship which will go to the Red Cross. Lee Dawkins, a Partner of the firm said “We at Slee Blackwell are pleased to have been able to contribute in some way to the outstanding work of the Red Cross. It is another example of the commitment Slee Blackwell and its staff have to the wider community”.
The race is an annual event, and details of next years’ event will be available from the Red Cross in due course. Why don’t you enter a team? The event comes highly recommended.
