Successful kitchen accident claim: We recover compensation for a man who was injured while working in a commercial kitchen
Our client was asked to carry a hog roast. The pig had already been put on the skewer and weighed about 150 lbs. While carrying the hog roast he slipped on some steps leading to the kitchen. He fell and the hog roast skewer pierced his leg, causing a very nasty injury.
Because our client suffered from diabetes this caused some complications with his injury. It did not heal as hoped and he needed multiple skin grafts for the wound. This ultimately left him with severe scarring and altered sensation. He also became depressed because he was unable to work and ultimately ended up taking early retirement.
We agreed to take on his kitchen accident claim on a No Win, No Fee basis.
We submitted details of the claim to his employer’s insurers. They admitted liability quickly having recognised that it had been extremely unwise to require him to carry the hog roast down steps alone.
We then arranged for him to be seen by a number of medical experts, including an orthopaedic surgeon, a plastic surgeon and a psychologist. All were able to give treatment recommendations and advise on his long-term prospects.
The insurers paid up-front for the medical treatment that was recommended which helped our client recover more quickly.
We were then able to enter into settlement discussions with the insurance company and after a period of negotiation a compensation package was agreed, which our client was very happy with.
