injury at work solicitors in Devon and Somerset
According to statistics recently published by the health and safety executive, the number of workplace accidents is rising again and heading back to their pre-pandemic levels.
The most common accidents at work in 2020/21 were:
- Slips, trips and falls: 33%
- Handling, lifting or carrying: 18%
- Struck by moving object: 10%
- Acts of violence: 8%
- Falls from a height: 8%
Prior to the pandemic, the rate of non-fatal injury to workers had been showing a downward trend and the 2020/21 rate was lower than that in 2018/19. However, the numbers remain concerning, with a staggering 441,000 people suffering injury while at work.
It’s no great surprise that the industries most affected include construction and agriculture. However, occupations such as social work rank above the national average.
We receive a steady stream of calls to our free Helpline from people who have suffered an injury at work who want to know if they have a right to claim compensation.
We are usually able to assist work accident victims, as people should be safe while at work and most accidents occur because an employer has failed to ensure an adequate level of health and safety.
Compensation is paid for the injury itself, along with additional sums to cover lost earnings and out of pocket expenses. We can also recover the value of care that is provided by friends and family, and in serious cases we can claim compensation for losses that are likely to arise in the future, for example when someone requires ongoing medical treatment or their future earnings are likely to be affected.
We deal with injury at work claims on a No Win, No Fee basis, which means that you don’t have to worry about funding the case yourself.
