A compensatory redress scheme has been developed by Harrods to deal with claims against the company for abuse perpetrated by former chairman, Mohammed Fayed.
The development of the redress scheme involved consultation with leading claimant solicitors who represent survivors, including our own abuse team at Slee Blackwell Solicitors.
The consultation process also included leading barristers and Independent Survivor Advocate, Dame Jasvinder Sanghera.
Harrods has issued an unreserved apology for the sexual abuse inflicted upon survivors by Mohammed Fayed. The company acknowledges that survivors were failed and recognises the profound and devastating consequences of sexual abuse.
Harrods wants everyone who is eligible to receive compensation, and the Scheme is proposed as a without prejudice form of Alternative Dispute Resolution to provide fair, reasonable and swift redress. It is intended to provide survivors with a trauma informed alternative to traditional court-based litigation, which can often re-traumatise survivors.
The Harrods Redress Scheme provides for offers of compensation to be made solely on the basis of documentary evidence, without survivors being required give oral evidence at a hearing.
Applications to the Scheme will not take away a claimant’s right to bring a court action, but if an offer under the Scheme is accepted then it will be in full and final settlement.
Applicants are recommended to obtain independent legal advice, and Harrods’ legal representatives have published a list of five law firms who played an important part in the scheme consultation and are committed to ensuring survivors receive 100% of their damages for applications that remain within the Scheme.
We are one of those five law firms.
Our lawyers are committed to ensuring that claimants receive truly independent specialist legal advice, along with every penny they are awarded under the Harrods Redress Scheme, without any deductions being made.
