As part of our work supporting survivors with making compensation claims through the Harrods Redress Scheme, we have spoken with individuals who not only experienced sexual abuse at the hands of Mohamed Al-Fayed but were also subjected to inappropriate and invasive medical testing on the directions of Mohamed Al-Fayed.
Some survivors have shared accounts of being examined or “tested” by Dr Wendy Snell, a name that has featured in both survivor testimony and recent media investigations, including the Channel 4 Dispatches programme, ‘Delivered to a Predator’. These examinations were not carried out for genuine or legitimate medical reasons and have left many women deeply distressed.
While Dr Wendy Snell has not been charged or convicted of any criminal offence, her name has been raised by a number of survivors in connection with what the Harrods Redress Scheme defines as ‘wrongful testing’.
Dr Wendy Snell has also been at the centre of allegations that have been made against the independent doctors’ regulator for refusing to investigate alleged medical malpractice at Harrods because too much time had passed and it wasn’t “in the greater public interest”.
To acknowledge this specific form of harm, the Harrods Scheme provides an additional award of up to £10,000 compensation to eligible applicants who were required to undergo such procedures. Survivors can access this compensation under the Scheme without needing to go through the courts or give oral evidence, which can often re-traumatise people.
Slee Blackwell Solicitors were one of a small number of specialist legal firms consulted during the development of the Harrods Scheme, and we are committed to ensuring that all survivors we represent receive 100% of their compensation, with no deductions or hidden costs.
If you have been subjected to wrongful testing, or experienced abuse connected to Mohamed Al-Fayed during his time at Harrods, we encourage you to get in touch with us for a free consultation. All enquiries are handled in total confidence and with great sensitivity.
