Devon car accident compensation claim
Specialist personal injury lawyer and Slee Blackwell partner, Elizabeth Duncan, has recovered £18,000 for a Devon woman (‘R’) who suffered neck, shoulder, and back injuries in a road traffic accident in Torquay.
The driver of a car changed lanes, collided with another car and then crashed into R’s car on the rear passenger side. The driver subsequently collided with another vehicle.
Not only did R experience pain and stiffness in her neck and shoulders, but she also suffered headaches and lower back pain which radiated to her legs. Worryingly this ultimately turned out to be Cauda Equina Syndrome, which is an extremely serious condition that can lead to long term disability.
In addition to her physical injuries R also suffered psychologically with low mood and anxiety.
R instructed a firm of solicitors to represent her and they were successful in securing an admission from the insurance company for the driver. However R was unhappy with their advice about the value of her compensation claim. She was also frustrated that lawyers handlinger her claim frequently changed so that she never knew who she was supposed to be speaking to.

Elizabeth reviewed all the evidence that had been obtained and quickly realised that more was needed. A hotly contested area of the claim was whether the Cauda Equina had been caused by the accident or was something she would have suffered in any event.
