Medical negligence lawyer, Oliver Thorne, has recently achieved a £100,000 compensation settlement for a mother who suffered psychological injury during the traumatic birth of her son at the North Devon District Hospital.
Her son also sadly suffered a life-changing brain injury and Oliver is pursuing a separate compensation claim on his behalf.
Oliver has specialised in birth injury claims for nearly 15 years and has a wealth of experience of dealing with these cases. His work was carried out under no win, no fee agreement, which meant that the family did not have to worry about funding legal fees.
This was one of the first medical negligence claims to fall within the NHS Litigation Authority’s Early Notification Scheme, introduced to ensure that thorough investigations take place quickly so that any structural failings can be immediately addressed.
In this instance failing’s at North Devon District Hospital’s maternity unit resulted in a delay in delivering our client’s baby. As a result of the delay the baby suffered hypoxia. This occurs when there is a lack of oxygen, and it caused our client’s son to suffer brain damage from which he will never recover.
It was an extremely traumatic birth and our client has been compensated for the psychological harm she suffered as a result.
