Mothers and babies who have suffered illness as a result of delays in the diagnosis and treatment of a group B Streptococcus infection may be entitled to claim compensation.

Group B Streptococcus infections are caused by the Streptococcal bacteria. Although these bacteria are very common in the population they present a severe health risk to pregnant women and their babies.

A group B Streptococcus infection during pregnancy can result in premature labour, a miscarriage or stillbirth. There is also a risk of the infection being passed from the mother to her baby. Symptoms in a new born infant can be displayed up to three months after the baby has been born.

It is therefore vitally important that any Streptococcus infection in an expectant mother is quickly identified and treated with antibiotics. If their baby becomes infected then they too need to be quickly treated.

If there is a delay in treating a group B Streptococcus infection in a baby then there is a risk that they could suffer sepsis or meningitis, with potentially serious long term health consequences. In particularly severe cases the infection can be fatal.

If you or your baby suffer a group B Streptococcus infection leading to illness or disability then our team of experts are here to help you. Simply provide us with details of your case and we will review your options and give guidance on claiming compensation on a no win, no fee basis.
