Lawyers launch a specialist birth injury website
“The website is designed for the parents of these children, “ said Oliver Thorne, a medical negligence lawyer and head of the medical negligence team at Slee Blackwell. As well as acting for children who have suffered a birth injury, the team also deal with injuries suffered by mothers during the birth.
Oliver and his colleagues are based in our Barnstaple office. They have been receiving an increased number of enquiries from families in Devon, Somerset and beyond who have been affected by childbirth negligence issues.
“We have seen a growing number of claims from parents who’s children have been injured as a result of their birth. This is obviously very worrying and the aim of our new website it to provide people with a dedicated resource which will ensure parents and carers of children who have been injured have access to specialist legal advice from specialist lawyers,” said Oliver.
The new site aims to demystify the medical negligence claims process which may families understandably find overwhelming. It also offers access to a FREE helpline for people to call in confidence. “We are always happy to talk potential cases over with client,” says Oliver. “we can offer initial guidance and if it seems there are likely to be grounds for making a compensation claim we can arrange to obtain a medical opinion from one of the experts we regularly use in these cases.”
Oliver has significant experience in dealing with complex, high-value medical negligence and brain injury cases on a No Win, No Fee basis.
In recent years he has been involved in a number of multi million pound settlements and has helped recover in excess of £17m for clients who have suffered a variety of birth and brain injuries. The team have access to some of the country’s leading medical experts and barristers in this complicated area of law. As well as having the knowledge of dealing with the complex issues of liability, Oliver’s attention to detail and wealth of experience in these cases means he is able to achieve maximum compensation settlements for his clients.
Oliver is aware of the importance of making life easier for those who have suffered brain injury and has assisted families in renovating their existing houses or moving to properties that will better suit the needs of their injured children. Oliver has also put in place care regimes for families who require assistance as well as ensuring his clients receive the latest technology to make their lives easier. Our team recognise how important it is to ensure that families are fully supported after the settlement of their case. This includes setting up trusts and being involved with Deputyship issues.
