Barnstaple Wills solicitor Steph Rodgers is gearing up for Remember A Charity Week

Remember A Charity Week is an annual event that promotes many of the UK’s best known charities to help them continue their good work.

This year, the Remember A Charity Week campaign takes place on 5th – 11th September. The aim of the campaign is to encourage more people to leave a gift to charity in their Will. Many of the nation’s charities are dependent on legacies they receive to carry out their amazing work. However, although 74% of us in this country support a charity during our lifetime, only 6.3% remember to include a charitable gift in our Will.

Most charities receive no state funding. Even Britain’s incredible network of hospices is mostly funded by charitable donations.

The Remember A Charity organisation says that one of the most profound ways you can support a charity long into the future is to leave them gift in your Will:

“If a charity has touched your life, or someone you care about, then please consider saying thank you by leaving them a gift in your Will.”

Barnstaple Wills solicitor Steph Rodgers is aware of the dependency of the charity sector on legacies and is often called upon to advise on and include charitable bequests in the Wills she prepares.

As a solicitor it is her duty to ensure she is satisfied that the Will accurately reflects the donor’s wishes, and that they understand what effects their Will will have.

“Many of the legacies I am asked to include in the Wills I prepare are in favour of local charities whose primary aim is to benefit the people of North Devon, Steph explained. “However, national charities are also very popular.”
