Slee Blackwell’s Jo Funning went along to watch a production of Ghostlight at Kingsley Hall, Westward Ho! which was sponsored by the firm. Here is her review of the show:
“It’s always a joy when you see young performers who you can be pretty sure will go far. That was the feeling we got watching Ghostlight. This production was put together by Danny Cashmore, who is finishing his time at Petroc and heading off to study drama further afield. Although he will be departing North Devon, he is leaving his “Ghostlight” on the stage where he first got the acting bug.
Slee Blackwell’s sponsorship of the performance was clearly much appreciated and Danny thanked the firm for their support at the end of the show. Cue round of applause.
Danny and his four friends had put together a varied programme of musical numbers, from the West End to the movies. The audience reveled in familiar numbers, from Cole Porter to Les Mis, and learned a fair few new ones too, from shows like Heathers and Dear Evan Hansen, which have recently become really popular. There were some truly polished performances, by Danny himself and notably his co-star Meryam. Together they headlined the standout numbers for me, which were from Anything Goes, and featured some nifty tap dancing.
This wasn’t just “stand and sing” production, but a full-on performance with energetic and innovative choreography, plenty of colourful costume changes and a minimal but effective set, all produced by the young performers themselves. The sound system was excellent and the programme was smart and professional too. All in all, this Top Hat Theatre Group production shows that these youngsters are heading for bigger and better things. It’s also good to know that local Bideford lawyers, Slee Blackwell, are providing support for talent at the start of their careers.”
