Safety from sexual harm in hospitals is once again in the news with Dr Iuliu Stan being found guilty of misconduct by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal and being struck-off the Medical Register. The tribunal concluded that he preyed on victims for sexual gratification.
Dr Stan worked at Treliske Hospital, Truro, Cornwall, in the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics for around five years. He subjected patients, some of whom were children, to unnecessary intimate procedures. He also failed to follow the hospital’s chaperone policy.
He has left victims feeling understandably violated and abused.
At Slee Blackwell Solicitors, we are experts in handling claims for compensation arising from sexual assault. Elizabeth Duncan who heads our team of dedicated abuse lawyers feels passionately that more can be done in the NHS to prevent sexual harm, and has previously spoken with the BMJ (British Medical Journal) about this issue – https://www.abusecompensation.co.uk/news-articles/sexual-abuse-in-hospitals.html
Cornwall resident Elizabeth says:
“This is a truly disturbing set of events. That a doctor is able to ignore policies that are in place to protect patients and be able to abuse numerous people at a very vulnerable time in their lives is outrageous.”
Elizabeth has successfully dealt with many claims relating to sexual abuse in the NHS, including cases involving paramedics, occupational therapists, and nurses. She understands the profound impact of such traumatic experiences and is committed to providing compassionate and professional support.
Elizabeth is able to work on a No Win, No Fee basis so you should not let worries about legal costs put you off seeking justice.
