We understand that going through a divorce can be one of the most emotionally and financially stressful experiences in life. Often there is financial uncertainty, especially when legal fees begin to mount. That’s why we offer a Fixed Fee Divorce service, giving you clarity, control, and confidence from the outset.
What is a fixed fee divorce and how it can work for you
A fixed fee divorce is a legal service offered at a set price that our family law specialists offer in Tiverton. Instead of being billed by the hour, you will pay a flat rate that covers a specific scope of work.
This pricing structure is particularly appealing to individuals who want to manage their legal costs with clarity and certainty.
Legal fees associated with divorce can be unpredictable. A lawyer’s time, charged by the hour, can quickly escalate and add uncertainty to an already difficult situation. If you want to avoid this, our fixed fee scheme offers peace of mind and allows you to budget effectively for your future.
Since the law change in April 2022 when the ‘fault’ element of divorce was removed, the process of getting divorced has been simplified, but it can still be daunting. At Slee Blackwell, we believe that legal support should be accessible and straightforward and we can help alleviate the stress of legal proceedings. Not only that, but a fixed fee removes the worry of escalating costs, and allows us to focus on what matters most: helping you reach a resolution.
Our Fixed Fee Divorce service is designed to put you back in the driving seat; you are provided with complete transparency – the fixed fee service outlines clearly what work will be done so you know exactly what is included in the price; no surprises, no hidden extras.
What does a fixed fee divorce cost?
Our Fixed Fee Divorce package is competitive and less that the majority of other firms undertaking this type of work.
- As an Applicant (the person issuing the proceedings), we can offer a fixed fee of £600 plus VAT.
- As the Respondent, we can offer a fixed fee is £325 plus VAT **this is a reduced fee as we will not have had to complete the divorce application for you but will advise you on the application you have received and assist you in completing the acknowledgment of service form***
What do we include within the fixed fee?
Our fixed fee divorce covers all the essential steps involved in an uncontested divorce, including:
- Initial call with you to gather all the required information
- Once we have that information and your marriage certificate and the court fee (or exemption code), we will complete the online application form for you
- We will write to you and your ex-spouse to confirm that we have completed the application
- We will forward to you all correspondence from the court about your divorce application
- We will diarise the dates for when your ex needs to have completed the acknowledgement (and progress the divorce to the next stage even if they do not acknowledge which is rare)
- We will diarise and then complete the conditional order application
- We will confirm your instructions to apply for final order at the appropriate time and then complete that application
- We will forward you (as part of the court correspondence) the conditional order and final order which are important documents which you must keep safe
This service is ideal for couples who are in agreement about the divorce and do not have complex financial or child-related disputes.
What is not included within the fixed fee?
There is a court fee of £612 which you have to pay to the court if you are the applicant unless you are exempt. Read our article about fee exemption options if you are on a low income.
This court fee not included in the fixed fee.
The fixed fee also excludes:
- Obtaining a copy of your marriage certificate
- A process server fee if your ex is untraceable (this is rare and in most cases parties are keen to cooperate and move forward together)
- Advice about children matters
- Advice about financial matters although we will discuss general financial circumstances with you in the initial information gathering call and give generic information and guidance as to what you should consider in order to protect your financial position as a result of your divorce
- Mediation or collaborative law sessions
- Amendments or re-filing of documents due to changes or errors outside our control
- Court appearances or contested proceedings
Should your circumstances change or additional legal work become necessary, we will always discuss any extra costs with you before proceeding.
