The Benefits of Fixed Fee Divorce

Divorce can be one of the most emotionally and financially stressful times in our life, and uncertainty about legal costs can add another layer of anxiety. This is where fixed fee divorce comes in. A fixed fee package offers financial clarity and certainty, giving you control and peace of mind.

What Is a Fixed Fee Divorce?

A fixed fee divorce is a set price for specific legal services involved in the divorce process. Unlike traditional hourly billing models, fixed fees offer a clear, upfront cost. This approach is becoming increasingly popular in Barnstaple and across Devon as more couples seek financial certainty during a difficult time.

The Key Benefits

  1. Cost Transparency

One of the main advantages is knowing exactly what you’re going to pay. This helps our clients budget appropriately without the fear of hidden fees or rising bills due to prolonged negotiations.

  1. Reduced Stress

Divorce is tough enough without the added burden of unpredictable legal fees. Fixed fees allow clients to focus on the emotional and practical aspects of separation, rather than worrying about mounting legal costs.

  1. Efficient Legal Process

We are well-practised in streamlining the divorce process. With a clear structure and scope of work, cases are handled efficiently, professionally, and quickly by our experienced team.

  1. Accessibility

Fixed fee options make professional legal help more accessible to those who might otherwise try to navigate divorce alone. Having the right legal support can make a big difference to outcomes.

What’s Included in our Applicant’s Fixed Fee Divorce Package?

Here is what’s included if you are making the divorce application as the ‘Applicant’:-

  • An initial call with you to gather all the required information;
  • Once we have that information, your marriage certificate, and the court fee (or court fee exemption code), we will complete the online application form;
  • We will provide written confirmation that we have completed the application;
  • We will send you all correspondence from the court about your divorce application;
  • We will diarise the dates for when your ex needs to have completed the acknowledgement (and progress the divorce to the next stage even if they do not acknowledge);
  • We will diarise and then complete the conditional order application;
  • We will confirm your instructions to apply for final order at the appropriate time and then complete that application; and
  • We will send you the conditional order and final order for you to keep safe.

What is not included:-

  • Obtaining a copy of your marriage certificate, if required;
  • The court fee (currently £612 as at April 2025);
  • The instruction of a process server if your ex is untraceable (this is rare and in most cases parties are keen to cooperate and move forward together);
  • Advice about children matters; and
  • Advice about financial matters.

Should you require additional advice on any related aspect of your divorce then our team will be happy to provide you with an estimate of the cost.

The Respondent’s Divorce Package

If your ex is applying for the divorce and you are responding as the ‘Respondent’, then the work we need to undertake will be less than if we are representing the Applicant. This make the Respondent’s package cheaper.

We will respond to the steps taken by the Applicant and liaise with their lawyer and the court.

No court fees are payable by the Respondent.

How Much do our Fixed Fee Divorce Packages Cost?

The fixed fee for our Applicant’s package is £600 plus VAT and disbursements.

The fixed fee for our Respondent’s package is £325 plus VAT and disbursements.
