Katie Parr, a lawyer with extensive experience of dealing with claims involving an error in diagnosing an orthopaedic injury, has recently joined Slee Blackwell’s growing medical negligence team.

During her career Katie has dealt with a number of high value clinical negligence claims for errors made by medical professionals  in diagnosing orthopaedic injuries.

In one case, her client recovered compensation totalling £700,000 from North Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust after an injury to his ankle was not correctly diagnosed. The medical error resulted in her client suffering permanent disability and becoming unable to carry out manual work. It also caused her client to develop depression and exacerbated a pre-existing PTSD condition.

In another case involving an error in diagnosing an orthopaedic injury, the sum of £432,000 was awarded to Katie’s client after University Hospitals of Leicester failed to diagnose fractures to both shoulder blades. The mistake caused the fractures to heal in the wrong position. As a consequence the client’s range of movement in his shoulder was severely restricted.

Katie was also involved in a claim against the Royal United Hospital in Bath in relation to the negligent failure to diagnose a wrist fracture. The delay in diagnosing the fracture resulted in significantly reduced movement and strength in her client’s wrist, resulting in an out of court compensation settlement being reached of £200,000.
