Maintenance

There are two types of maintenance; maintenance for children and spousal maintenance.

In the case of child maintenance the 'absent' parent, that is the parent who the child does not live with, is responsible for paying maintenance. We can advise on the amount that should be paid and the procedures to follow if a fair and satisfactory agreement cannot be reached between the parents.

Spousal maintenance on the other hand is maintenance that one spouse pays to the other. This type of maintenance is only payable in some cases. Usually the law prefers there to be a 'Clean Break' between the parties which means that a settlement is reached whereby the parties have no further financial claims against the other.
