ACCIDENT SOLICITOR RIDES FOR LIFE
Mike Clarke, a specialist personal injury solicitor and partner in charge of Slee Blackwell’s Bideford office, is a qualified advanced motorcyclist and has been riding since the age of 17. He is a member of Devon Freewheelers EVS, a charity which provides urgent and emergency transport of vital medical supplies such as medicine, premature baby milk, blood, human tissue, and donor organs to hospitals throughout the South West. This service covers night-time and weekends when normal delivery procedures are either not available to the NHS, or are prohibitively expensive.
Mike says “My entire legal life has been spent dealing with injuries and my wife works in a local GP practice, so I am very conscious of the service that the NSH provides. I have always wanted to put my years of biking experience to good use and Devon Freewheelers gives me that opportunity. The totally free service we provide to the local NHS saves it a huge amount of money each year on courier, ambulance and driver costs- money which can then be ploughed back into medical care, for the benefit of the local community. Our riders are all certified as advanced riders, with a wealth of combined experience behind them. They ride at short notice, at all hours and in all weathers to help, because that is what they feel strongly about.
Riders use their own bikes for the majority of their work, often not even claiming the cost of fuel from the charity. We also have 5 emergency bikes, fully kitted with blue lights, sirens and specialist containers for transport of human tissue and blood. These used for full-on emergency deliveries.
This is the most satisfying motorcycling work I have come across and I am pleased that Slee Blackwell has helped to sponsor that work.”
